First House

So here I am with my first blog. I graduated in Decemeber and like many people, patiently waited to find a job. After what felt like 3, really long months, I found my first, big girl, full time job. My first official day was April 4th. I am working full time for a company called Pentair Pump Group. Many people know the name Myers or Hydromatic, which is basically who we are. I am in the International Department, Inside Sales. I am mainly Customer Service and Order Entry, although I do quoting as well. So far, I love my job and I literally learn something new everyday. I do some of the same things each day, but for the most part, every day is different and I love that. The people I work with are great as well and make work that much more enjoyable.
After moving in with my sister and brother-in-law in August 2010, the plan was to stay for a few months until I graduated and be out. Well, 10 months later and I moved out...
Like most people my age, I was looking for a 2 bedroom apartment. You can say I was picky, but I had a lot of "must-haves" during my search. I wanted A/C, pet friendly, washer and dryer, parking, etc. I also wanted a detached apartment/house style, not a complex. While my mom was helping me, she suggested I look at houses in the area, just to get an idea of what a monthly payment would be like while owning. To make a long story short, I went through the long process of searching, applying for the loan, putting in an offer, the home inspection, the massive amounts of papers to sign, and the looonnnngggg wait. After 6 long weeks of that good stuff, I closed on my first home.

The first week after closing, was nothing but long days and hard work. I am so thankful for my parents, grandparents, sister/brother-in-law and Kyle for helping to turn my house into a home. We spent Tuesday night taking off cupboard doors and prepping the house for work. I am an impatient person, which I can thank my mother for that trait, but paint colors were already picked out. Wednesday through Friday evening were nothing but painting/trimming, sanding and painting kitchen cupboards and more painting. Saturday was spent cleaning, washing windows, and my Dad, Grandpa and Bob put in a small patio off the back of the breezeway. (The patio was in the plans for later, but it was my gift from my amazing grandparents.) Sunday then was moving day. We used my dad's stock trailer which made life simple with one trip. Since Monday was July 4th and my mom designated my house to be the place for family get together/cookout and to watch fireworks, I had a lot of unpacking to do. Although with non-stop work, I had about 95% of everything done before everyone came Monday night. You can imagine how exhausted I was the following week at work. ;)

The first week in the new house was....challenging. First, I was used to living with 2 other adults and 3 children. Being alone was very lonely. Second, if I heard "Welcome to home ownership" once, I heard it a hundred times because one thing after another went wrong. I have a brand new refrigerator since the existing one wouldn't get cold enough and the freezer didn't freeze. The air conditioner actually stopped working Sunday, the day I moved in, but thanks to a friend of the family, that was fixed July 4th. The toilet is very tempermental and likes to stop working at times, so there are plans to replace that once the funds are there. Needless to say, my first week in the house was a nightmare. But almost 2 months later and things are much better and along the lines of normal, every day home owning.

I've rambled enough for the evening, but just a little to get some people up to speed on my life the past couple of months... :) More to come.
